MAJOR sponsors of the Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament, LICI, are planning to invite teams from India to tour Fiji.

General manager Krishnan Narasimhan said they were looking to bring in teams in an effort to develop the game locally.

"We are looking to develop cricket in Fiji and hopefully make a team to be reckoned with internationally.

"India is a country that has nurtured and mastered the sport and we are looking to get teams to mould local teams in competitions." Narasimhan said the players needed the support so that they were properly matured and groomed in the sport.

He added that LICI will be supporting cricket for another year.

"We have provided support for the Easter Tournament and the awards night since 2011 and we will continue till 2013. We are looking for support from other corporate organisations to help Cricket Fiji and the teams because through their support teams gain exposure and talent are shown which is good in terms of the sport progressing," he said.

Cricket Fiji chairman, Colonel Ilaisa Kacisolomone acknowledged the support provided at the Cricket Fiji Awards Night at the Novotel Hotel, Lami, on Saturday.

"Cricket Fiji has definitely moved up in the world and the support given towards the sport and association is the major contributing factor," he said.

Col. Kacisolomone said people should change their mindsets where the performances of the teams were concerned and focus more on what can be achieved.

"The mindset that the teams will not accomplish due to past results should be changed.

"People should instead think of the possibilities and support the players for cricket to progress. Managers and players should also work harder to give the sport a new direction," he added.
