THE Fiji High Commission in Papua New Guinea held a flood appeal last weekend.

The appeal was held through the initiative and leadership of Fiji's High Commissioner to PNG, Niumaia Tabunakawai and his wife Ofa Tabunakawai.

The event raised 61,000 kina ($F53,866) which will be remitted to Fiji as assistance of the Fiji High Commission and the Fijian community in PNG towards the Prime Minister's Flood Appeal.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the event was supported by the Fijian community in Port Moresby and friends of Fiji, including government officials, business houses and expatriates.

Pictures from the devastation brought about by the recent floods and Tropical Cyclone Daphne were displayed on the overhead projector and pasted on a board.

The pictures were compelling and persuaded kind and charitable hearts from guests ensuring the event received very generous help, the statement said.
