RUCI Kaiwai never regretted the decision to play cricket as a kid and has been aspiring to be the best since.
She was voted LICI Cricket Fiji 2012 Women's Player of the year for the Cricket Fiji Association and Cricket Fiji Governing Body award on Saturday night.
The 26-year-old said she never thought that she would win the two awards.
"I know I played my best throughout the season but I never really expected to win both awards," said the Moce woman.
"I had been trying very hard to get into the Suva rugby side but I did not have any luck."
She said her husband motivated her to be the best in the sport and gave her tremendous support.
After being picked as vice-captain of the 2010 national team to Samoa and assistant coach 2012, she aims to expand her career further by becoming coach in future. "It was an honour to represent the national side in Samoa and be selected as assistant coach but I want to be the greatest women's coach so that the sport can develop even further.
Kaiwai encourages women to join cricket and those that are part of the team should turn up for training for the betterment of the sport.
"Fiji needs a women's team that is fit to play internationally. That is why I am encouraging women to show up for training and those that wish to try the sport should do so as well," she said.
