THE Fiji Hockey Association is now reaping fruit of hosting the Oceania Pacific Cup at the National Hockey Centre in Suva for the past four years.

Two national reps Adrian Smith and Leevan Dutta are now on attachment in New Zealand and Australia respectively.

The duo applied for their attachments when the New Zealand Barbarians and Australian Country toured Fiji during the OPC last year. Dutta is now linked with a club in Melbourne while Smith is on attachment until September at the Auckland Indian Hockey Club.

Some of the NZ Barbarians players that toured Fiji last year are contracted with the Auckland Indian club.

Fiji Hockey official Milli Smith says Fiji Hockey is happy to have the duo linked with two overseas clubs.

"This is the fruit of what hosting the OPC for the past four years. I think this is the first time two hockey players are linked with overseas club but I am not really sure that," she said.

Milli's son Adrian is one of Fiji's key players during its OPC campaign for the past couple of years.

"I am happy to see my son playing hockey there. This is a huge boost for Fiji hockey, He will definitely bring a lot of experience when he comes back to join the team," Milli said. "Both Adrian and Leevan are Ventures players, they are still young and we hope they will offer more tips to the team when they come back," she said.

"This is an advantage for Fiji Hockey, Adrian and Leevan's exposure in overseas will be a huge boost to us when we play international matches," she said.

Milli added she is optimistic more players would be offered opportunities to broaden their skills and knowledge of the game overseas in the future.
