PRIME Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama personally thanked each prison inmate for their hard work in trying to put Nadi Town back on its feet.

A Ministry of Information statement said Commodore Bainimarama walked around Nadi Town and thanked each of the Fiji Corrections Service inmate.

The inmates cleared debris left behind in the tourist town by the recent floods.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Attorney-General and Minister for Commerce Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua and FCS Commissioner Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu.

They visited and thanked every inmate working around Nadi.

Commodore Bainimarama also visited Sigatoka Town and was advised that 80 per cent of those living in the larger Sigatoka area had access to drinking water.

He re-visited the Matavo pumping station to inspect work undertaken by the authorities to restore water to the area.

Meanwhile, the statement said, clean-up around villages, communities and major centres would continue today.
