HE lost everything during the recent flood in Nadi but young Avikash Lal never lost his passion for athletics.
The suffering he faced last week did not deter the young 16-year old athlete of Votualevu College in Nadi from coming to participate at the Athletics Fiji Easter Championship at the National Stadium yesterday.
Lal who lives at Votualevu Carrars said his family lost everything during the flood.
"We have a farm in Votualevu and we lost everything during the flood. We were not really prepared for it and that is why we lost everything."
"We tried our best to save some of our belonging but most of it was washed away by the strong current," Lal said.
The Form Six student now faces another disaster of trying to find a place to train. Lal said even the road are in worse condition.
"I am happy that I have not lost my passion for athletics. I will use this natural disaster as a motivation to inspire me to train hard and win gold during the Coke Games," Lal said.
"Right now I face the problem of trying to find somewhere to train but that will not event stop me from giving my best when I participate," Lal said.
He will compete in the intermediate boy's 1500meters and 3000m during the Nadi zone next week.
"I came to the Easter games just to test my fitness, I am happy with it so far but I am looking forward to our zone meet next week," he said.
