ATHLETICS Fiji officials had to call off the final two events of yesterday's Easter Championship because of heavy rain in Suva.

The 4x100 meters and 4x400 relays was not completed as the welfare of athletes were a concern to the organizers.

However Athletics Fiji said they were happy with the number of athletes who turned out.

"We are pleased with the number of athletes that came to participate, most of them are secondary school athletes but it was good to watch them compete against each other," Roy Ravana Senior, the secretary of Athletics Fiji said.

"We had to cancel the last two events because of the heavy rain," he said.

Ravana said the competition went according to plan.

He said they were graced with the participation of Rotuma and Votualevu athletes.

Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro cruised home to win the men's 100m finals. Shaun Kean won the men's 400m ahead of Ratu Tira Narara while Roy Ravana Junior won the 200m.

Elenoa Sailosi won the women's 100 and 200 finals while Wilma Cawi was victorious in the long jump.

"We are happy with the turnout in the women's triple jump event. It has been after a long time that we have a lot of ladies competing in the triple jump event," Ravana said.

"The presence of the athletes from Rotuma and Votualevu graced the event. We have a lot of athletes from Suva who are preparing for the Coke games."

"I think it was a good platform for these athletes to gauge their preparation for the secondary school national finals."
