YOUTHS at an evacuation centre have been tasked with the cleaning of Xtoilets every morning.

And people at the Andhra Sangam Primary School evacuation centre in Sigatoka have been told to take a bucket of water with them when visiting the toilet.

Peniasi Vakili of Nayawa Village who is looking after people at the centre said dirty toilets was a major concern.

Mr Vakili and more than 160 people from the village and Nayawa settlement moved to the school last Friday when floodwaters entered their homes.

"I have organised youths at this evacuation centre to clean the toilets every morning and told everyone going to the toilet to take a bucket of water with them to flush," he said.

"This is for the safety of everyone living at this evacuation centre as toilets have to be clean for the safety of all of us here.

"We are using water from the school's two tanks and also collecting rainwater for our daily needs.

"But if we stay here longer and the water in tanks runs dry, we will have a big problem as far as the use of toilets is concerned."

Mr Vakili said the government provided enough food rations for people living at the centre on Sunday and the evacuees were happy with it.
