Fiji Times score at awards

Sunday, November 01, 2009

READERS and families of the Fiji Times employees were acknowledged for their support following the newspaper's win at the annual News Limited Awards in Australia on Friday night.

The Fiji Times outdid the Courier Mail and The Gold Coast Bulletin to win the Campaign of the Year award.

The award was for a campaign on any issue, which brought about change and public benefit. Last year, the Fiji Times scooped the Chairman's Award.

Editor-in-chief Netani Rika thanked the staff, especially their families, who endured a tough but rewarding 12 months.

"We work odd hours and are often away from home," he said.

"The support of family is so important to what we do and this award is a tribute to our wives, husbands, partners and children.

"This award is also a tribute to all our readers who have stood by us. They have made our circulation grow to new levels."

Fiji Times managing director Anne Fussell described the award as an honour.

"It is an incredible honour to win such a prestigious award particularly when you look at the quality of the other finalists," she said.

"It is testimony to the courage, determination and integrity of all our staff who continue to strive to bring the people of Fiji news and information that is important to their lives."
