Update: 2:19PM The people of Namau in Tailevu have begun a partnership that hopes to carry on into the future to benefit the villages in maximising their natural resources not only for subsistence use but for economical returns for the people.
A Memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday in Namau between the Acting Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Dr Richard Beyer, Mr Eliki Bomani of the Prime Ministers Office and Isikeli Turaganivalu who represented Namau Village and the Tui Naroto.
Speaking in Fijian, Mr Turaganivalu thanked the interim government.
"This follows the visit by the Prime Minister to Namau in 2007, whereby through the Ministry of Agriculture, rehabilitation works were carried out to better the output of their resources through training and provision of equipment," he said.
"This partnership would enable the villages to access the help of government to improving their livelihoods while at the same time ensuring that they play their part in taking the initiative to help themselves to develop their resources."
