A FORMER minister in the ousted Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua government is scheduled to appear in a court in San Francisco, California, today.
Former Minister for Women Adi Asenaca Caucau was charged with assaulting a passenger at San Francisco airport yesterday.
Director Immigration Viliame Naupoto yesterday said their only concern in the issue was that Adi Asenaca was using her diplomatic passport.
"We have made arrangement with our embassy in Washington for the passport to be returned to us for cancellation," said Mr Naupoto.
He said the embassy would issue a certificate of identity to facilitate her travel to Fiji.
"She can apply for a new ordinary passport if she wants. Diplomatic passports are government property and should be returned to Immigration for cancellation when people who are issued with one no longer hold the post that entitled them to a diplomatic passport."
Mr Naupoto said diplomatic passports were issued on authority from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
