WHILE much has been said and debated about the new green waste policy, a group of youths have stepped in with the hope of easing the tension over the matter.
Members of the Black Jack youth club of Namadi Heights in Tamavua has volunteered to help the Suva City Council contractors collect green waste from the area.
The group, consisting of 27 youths, made its first attempt last month and this will be a regular schedule for the coming months.
"We started last month and we want to continue doing this once a month," said group member Esala Kotoiwasawasa.
"We collect mostly green waste from all the houses and compile it at one place to make it easier for the council people.
"We also move with the trucks to pick green waste from houses.
"We understand people have been having a lot of problems managing green waste and we are here to help," he said.
Mr Kotoiwasawasa said it was their duty to help the community in every way they can.
"We just want a clean and rubbish-free surrounding and helping our community is something we see as our duty.
"We are glad that the boys are able to offer some help to keep our environment clean and healthy."
