THE Namadi Heights Neighbourhood Watchzone chairman and former politician, Fred Caine, has warned the Suva City Council there could be a massive protest if the council failed to remove the Green Waste Policy immediately.
Mr Caine said despite raising several concerns on the issue, the council had chosen to ignore the views and complaints of ratepayers.
"If they have not realised it, I think it's about time they realised that we are the ones who fund the city's operations.
"We are the budgeters," said a frustrated Mr Caine.
"What they are doing now is total dictatorship and them having it their way will not be tolerated anymore," he said.
Mr Caine assured there were petitions circulating among the residents of his area against the council's Green Waste Policy and support was increasing.
He said the city council had failed to hold any consultation with the ratepayers directly when they should have been consulted for any proposed changes.
He said the Green Waste Policy was a not a practical method of handling rubbish and was a waste of the taxpayers' money.
Suva's deputy lord mayor Josefa Gavidi admitted that the council had not held the necessary consultations with the ratepayers before implementing the green waste policy.
Mr Gavidi said the SCC would not refrain from implementing the new policy.
"We are only trying to create a clean city," mr Gavidi said.
"We can only do this with the co-operation from all the residents in the capital.
"We plead with them to work with us for a better and beautiful city."
