AMUNICIPALITY is planning to punish those responsible for dumping rubbish on an industrial subdivision within its boundaries.
The Nasinu Town Council last week made known its intentions to take legal action against two companies after their employees were seen allegedly dumping rubbish illegally.
Council health inspector Darisha Datt said the two companies' employees unloaded rubbish from their vehicles onto a vacant lot at Bulei Road.
She said one of the companies was caught red-handed by council workers.
The other, she said, denied dumping rubbish even though one of their vehicles was seen unloading trash on a vacant piece of land.
"These companies are so busy making money that they ignore the impact on the environment and public health," Ms Datt said.
She said company owners did not want to spend money taking their rubbish to Naboro and, instead, took the easy way out by dumping it on the vacant lot.
She said the only authorised place for dumping large quantities of rubbish was the Naboro Landfill.
Attempts to get comment from the two companies yesterday prove futile.
Town clerk Satish Kumar said this was a serious problem and they would ensure those responsible were taken to task.
