THE question of whether the electoral system is flawed is one best answered for the people by Parliament, Munro Leys lawyer Richard Naidu said.
Responding to a question from the floor on how a flawed electoral system could be legally rectified under the interim regime, he said the decision to do something about the problem vested with Parliament.
"Assuming we all agree that the electoral system is flawed, so what? We don't make that decision," he said at the debate organised by the Media Forum on whether the People's Charter was good for Fiji.
Mr Naidu said the multi-party, multi-racial and multi-government concepts which the charter proposed was not new to what Fiji had before the 2006 coup.
"That's what we had. We've got to follow the rule. The only way is through an elected Parliament." Mr Naidu, a member of the negative team said.
