Douse the fire, says Arya

Friday, April 11, 2008

FIJI can not carry on as if it's business as usual anymore as there is a compelling need for change, said Arya Samaj Pratinidhi Sabha president Kamlesh Arya.

He said each time one fell down, one had to rise again and walk on.

As third member of the affirmative team, Mr Arya - a member of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji - said Fiji had been looking for coup culprits instead of dousing the fire.

The People's Charter he said was mandated by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo for the people.

Defending the military, Mr Arya said the military was compassionate and were not opportunists as certain sectors claimed.

Nadi-based lawyer Tupou Draunidalo said the coup had to fail as does the charter.

A member of the negative team, she said it was ironic that those who overthrew the Qarase-led government were now asking them to join the charter.

"I'm the last person to speak for SDL Conflict resolution doesnt work that. You cant hurt someone and hold a gun to his head and say join us," she said.
