I won't resign, says Savou

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

FAMILIES and friends greeted national sevens players when they flew home last night after a dismal performance in Hong Kong and Adelaide.

The players, who arrived one day late because mechanical problems on their aircraft, came on two separate flights.

They refused to speak to the media and referred all questions to coach Josateki Savou.

Savou, who came under criticism for changes he made to the team during the semi-final against New Zealand, said he would not bow to calls for his resignation.

"I won't step down until the Fiji Rugby Union board wants me to go," he said.

"In three weeks we will have a fitness test and pick 20 players for the next leg.

"And the focus will be on the World Cup."
