PCPI suspicious of FHRC report timing

Friday, February 29, 2008

Update: 3:50PM The Pacific Centre for Public Integrity says the timing of the release of the FHRC commissioned report on Independence of the media coincided with the deportation of expatriate media executive Russell Hunter.

PCPI executive Angie Heffernan, said apart from the actual nonsensical contents of the report itself, they are questioning the timing of the release of report by Dr Shaista Shameem.

PCPI states that it is not a coincidence that the report was released after the deportation of Mr Hunter, which they say was deliberately done to provide a public relations justification for the interim regimes actions against the media.

It defies logic, Heffernan says that the very institution that is mandated to protect human rights, would endorse a report that recommends racism, discrimination and human rights violations.

This obvious collusion between the FHRC under Dr Shaista Shameem and interim regime further reflects how politically compromised the FHRC has become.
