Update: 9.15am Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni has warned members of the public against making public statements that could lead to unrest.
Mr Teleni says the police have been monitoring public utterances made in the media by certain individuals.
"At this I would like to tell the people of Fiji that there are laws and regulations that the police can use and may use in order to prevent that," he told Radio Fiji.
Mr Teleni says the police have already started investigations into the reactions prompted by the announcement of Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs.
"We are now already analysing statements said in the last few days."
