Village benefits from Survivor

Wednesday, November 21, 2007

THE shooting of the Survivor Fiji series last year at Vunivutu Village in the North benefited villagers as they received mattresses, tauplins and kitchen appliances from the crew.

Above all that were given to the villagers, one of the gifts they treasured most came in the form of an office a computer set, lounge suite, table, chair and carpeted floor.

Also included in the gift were cartons of books, balls, netball rim, volleyball net and other toys for children in the village.

Village headman Sebeta Silicala said the office and toys would be shared between primary kids and the village kindergarten.

The office sits in a container and has air condition with slide doors.

"When the container was given to us, we had no electricity so we kept it locked all the time.

"Now that the village has electricity we will use the office which the primary and kindergarten schools can use," Mr Silicala said.

He said the computer would be handy not only for the schools but for village meetings as well where news letters and minutes of meetings could be typed and printed.
