President appoints Malaysian judges

Update: 5.55 pm Two Malaysian judges have been appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum confirmed that the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo had appointed the two judges as provided for by the constitution.

Dato Dr Cyrus Das, a foermer president of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association and who holds a Ph.D in constitutional law and Dato Cecil Abraham from a firm of advocates and lawyers in Malaysia are the latest edition to the FCA benches.

The remaining members of the FCA resigned yesterday citing differences with acting Chief Justice Anthony Gates over administrative matters.

Mr Khaiyum said the Judicial Services Commission would be making further announcements in due course in respect of appointment of more qualified judges to the FCA and the High Court.
