FINTEL addresses blog spot issue

Update: 4.39pm FINTEL, which provides Fiji's international telecommunications services, says it has advised the Ministry of Home Affairs of aternative options that could be explored to address concerns without compromising national access to the entire internet network.

The company was put under pressure to block anti-military blog spots by anonymous bloggers and which were very damaging to many prominent Fiji citizens.

In a statement issued today, FINTEL's chief executive Sakaraia Tuilakepa confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration had approached it regarding the possibility of blocking access to selected blog sites.

FINTEL says it is assisting the Ministry of Home Affairs examine the most effective way of addressing their concerns without breaching the conditions of its licence as international gateway service provider.
