Update: 3.53pm FIJI Hardwood Corporation board chairman Winston Thompson has assured Public Enterprises Minister Poseci Bune that they are fully aware of some of the major challenges it's faced with and will do its best to resolve them in the best way they can.
Mr Thompson was responding to the minister's call for the board to try to make a profit for the company by the end of the year.
The chairman said after his recent visit to Nukurua in Tailevu, to one of the mahogany landowning sites last week, the company is assured there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Mr Thompson said the board is fully aware of the enormous potenital in the mahogany industry and has assured the ministry that the company envisages to achieve a profit of $4.2million by the end of the year from the harversting of 60,000 cubic meters of logs.
The company has not improved its performance since its establishment in 1998 and has accumulated a loss of about $11million.
