Ba players in doubt

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

FIJI is likely to miss the services of its Ba players for the last two matches of its United States of America tour.

An uncertainty surrounds the availability of the Ba players because the Men In Black will be engaged in the final of the O League competition if it wins its home matches against AS Temanava and Marist FC later this month.

The first final of the O League is scheduled for April 21 which is four days after Fiji's fixture against Major League club Real Salt Lake.

National coach Juan Carlos Buzzetti said he needs to hold an important discussion with Fiji FA president Doctor Shamsud Dean Sahu Khan to address the issue before naming the tour party.

Buzzetti said he may have to increase the number of players from 22 to 24 to fill in the void that would be created by the departure of the Ba boys.

He said it was a sensitive issue as Ba is involved in a very important competition.

Carlos said he has delayed naming of the side until resolves the issue with Dr Sahu Khan.

He said the players who will be named in the team will regather in camp at the soccer academy in Ba on March 20.

Fiji FA senior vice president Mohammad Yusuf said the Ba players will be released on April 12 if the side qualifies for the O League final.

He said they will be scouting for talents in the United States to draft in the national side for its final two fixtures.

Yusuf said they have been forwards names of some players who may be eligible to represent the country.

"We will be scouting for talents on our tour," Yusuf said.

"The match against the Fiji All Stars is the one we are most interested in. We are hoping to find some players who are eligible to play for Fiji. We have been given some names.

"However, it will depend on how well they perform. It is possible they will be recruited for your two remaining fixtures."

Fiji's match against Kansas City Wizard on April 17 is yet to be confirmed.
