CONSUMERS in the Northern Division have been advised to use water sparingly because of the current drought.
The Public Works Department has started distributing water to non-metered drought affected areas in the north following requests from the Commissioner Northern's office.
Water engineer Northern Timoci Turaga said water supply was currently normal but consumers were being advised to use it sparingly because of the dry weather experienced in the North.
He said some non-metered areas that were dependent on bore holes and wells were already facing problems.
Meanwhile, applications for connection of new water meters will be suspended from next Thursday because the staff would be taking their Christmas break.
Mr Turaga said most of the staff at their Northern office would be going on leave from December 22 and would return to work by mid January.
Mr Turaga said pending applications were being cleared and new ones would not be accepted after Thursday next week.
