CANADA-BASED Fijian 7s fans came out in numbers yesterday to bid farewell to Canada 7s champions, the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team as they returned home after the third leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The team was overwhelmed by the support shown by the fans and the boys were humbled to share a meal of home cooked roti and curry with their fans before they departed YVR International Airport in Vancouver, Canada.

The jubilant fans, still celebrating Fiji's 31-12 win over Kenya in the final of the Canada 7s on Monday were mostly Fijians of Indian descent now residing in Canada.

While they came in numbers to bid farewell to the team, they surprised the boys with some roti parcels, a meal Waisea Nacuqu felt blessed to have.

"We are thankful for these fans that came today and the support they have shown us. We are thankful for the food they brought us"," Nacuqu said.

"It means a lot to us and we are thankful that they came to farewell us at the airport today", Nacuqu said.

Among the fans at the YVR International Airport was Alistair Pallad, a die hard 7s fan.

Pallad said they had prayed and fasted for the team before the tournament.

"We've been praying and fasting for the past 48 hours before the game on Thursday and Friday," Pallad said.

"It's nice to see strength in God and unity," he said.

Pallad said it had been an amazing past couple of days for the Fijian fans in Canada.

"I've been in Canada for the past 40 years but my heart and soul has always been in Fiji and for the team.

"We're here at the airport to farewell the boys and see they have a safe trip back home to their families and loved ones.

"I just hope the boys have a good rest and recover before they take part in the Hong Kong 7s next month," Pallad said.

The Jerry Tuwai-captained side is the only team to win two tournaments in the 2017/2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
