SAMOA A defeated Tonga A 40-10 in the second round of the World Rugby Pacific Challenge at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

The men in blue scored six tries with five successful conversions while Tonga scored only two tries in the first half.

The Brian Lima-coached side were too strong as they controlled the game throughout the entire match.

Fetuli Paea of Tonga scored their first try in the 20th minute with the conversion from James Faiva unsuccessful to lead 5-0.

But the Samoans came back with a try to fullback Ricky Ene and the conversion from fly half D'Angleo Leiuila saw them lead 7-5.

Tonga came firing back with an unconverted try to Tuhakavalu Ika to again take over the leadi 10-7.

Samoa proved their dominance when they scored their second try to Faasauvale Lucky to take over lead 12-10.

Captain Henry Stowers scored Samoa's third try with Leiuila slotting home the conversion and extended their lead to 19-10 at the end of the first half.

Ene scored his second try for Samoa to open the second half and the conversion was successful to see them ahead 26-10.

The Tongan team tried to fight back but was unfortunate as the Samoans finished the game strongly with tries to Gafa Suva and Iosua Faalel, both which were converted.

Samoan coach Brian Lima said the game against Tonga was always physical.

"We played our cards right and we're looking forward to our next game against Japan," he said.
