A-G: Leases by May

GOVERNMENT will issue residents of a community in Ba with formal 99-year lease documents by May this year.

Residents of Clopcott were issued with Agreement Leases in 2014 and were promised proper leases by the end of 2017.

The settlement, located just outside Ba Town, was one of the first identified for development under Government's "formalisation of informal settlements" projects.

Yesterday, Attorney-General and acting Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told Parliament the leases would be issued mid-May, 2018.

He was responding to a question posed by Opposition MP Parmod Chand on when residents who were issued the Agreement Lease by Government in December 2014, would receive their proper leases.

In March last year, the Opposition posed a similar question, and in response, Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar said all residents would be issued proper 99-year leases by the end of 2017.

He said the agreement to lease was handed out in December 2014 with a five-year time frame for the subdivision.

"By end of this year, all the residents in Clopcott after the survey plan is registered will be issued 99-year lease," he had said in his response to National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad's question.
