'Tough task'

POLICE officers based at the Nalawa Police Post in Ra have a tough task of looking after more than 10,000 people, says Rakiraki senior police officer Sergeant Misaele Bisa.

He said there were only nine police officers working at the outpost, each catering for about 1800 people.

Sgt Bisa called for people's patience during a meeting with Nalawa Village elders in Matawailevu Village.

He said while plans to construct a new Nalawa Police Post were in progress, villagers needed to work with the officers in dealing with crimes. He said it was not an easy task for the officers to look after a large population of people with limited resources and manpower.

Tui Nalawa Ratu Epeli Niudamu said the role of police officers was valued by the people of Nalawa.

He said he knew that a police officer's work was not easy and he urged the people of Nalawa to co-operate with the Fiji Police Force.

The Nalawa Police Post was destroyed during Cyclone Winston in 2016.
