Update: 3:34PM THE Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) plans to carry out major maintenance work on its 132,000-volt transmission line carrying power from Wailoa Power Station to Cunningham this Sunday from 4am-8pm.

FEA chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said in a media conference today that the line would be switched off at this time to allow for the safe replacement of corroded bolts at Tower No.131 at Nakobalevu and Tower No.132 at Wailoku.

He assured customers that the available diesel generation capacity in the Central Division would be sufficient to meet customer needs.

"Customers in the Central Division may experience power supply outages during the above times in the event of a failure of one of the diesel generating sets or due to unrelated power line faults," Mr Patel said.

He said the exercise would depend on the weather being favourable and would be postponed to the following Sunday if the weather was unfavourable.

Mr Patel has assured members of the public that FEA would ensure that any disruptions arising out of its diesel generator sets would be kept to a minimum.
