Government votes out proposed inquiry into public health system

Update: 1:07PM A MOTION by Opposition MP Professor Biman Prasad proposing an inquiry into the health system was defeated a while ago in Parliament.

Prof Prasad had moved a motion that the Parliament approve the formation of a bipartisan committee to conduct an inquiry into the public health and medical system.

He also moved that the report of the inquiry to be tabled, debated and adopted in Parliament and to form the basis of formulation of policies and strategies by Government to improve the delivery of healthcare and medical services.

After a robust debate, the motion was defeated by the Government's 28 votes; 15 from Opposition voted in favour while seven opted not to vote.
