Update: 12:07PM TRAFFIC had to be controlled in the Suva city area around Centenary Church this morning where late trainee pilot Merelesita Lutu was farewelled.

Miss Lutu attracted hundreds of mourners and members of the public who filled the church and nearby streets.

In moving eulogies; family, friends and her aviation colleagues spoke of a woman who had big dreams and worked hard to achieve them.

Father Emosi Lutu told mourners everyone dies someday and it was important to prepare oneself for the afterlife.

He said the family was confident about the late aviator's spiritual well-being.

In a moving tribute, older sister Alisi, the only family member to have flown with Merelesita, thanked everyone involved with the search and recovery effort and paid special mention to the Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
