Jovesa Naisua In Vancouver
Friday, March 09, 2018

FIJI'S 12 for the Vancouver 7s this weekend will hinge on forward Jasa Veremalua's recovery in the next few days.

Since the side arrived on Monday, Fiji Airways Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber has had two training sessions while the side will be on a day off today.

While the Canadians say it is summer time, the 3 degrees Celsius temperature yesterday has had the Fijians in layers of clothing but still feeling cold to the bone.

A plus for Baber though is that he has 13 players to choose from.

"...We had issues with (Alasio) Naduva's visa (for Las Vegas 7s), we did not know how soon he was going to come so fortunately FRU felt that it was necessary to bring in Batinisavu (Uluiyata) as well. We had brought in (Waisea) Nacuqu as the 13th man in Las Vegas as well so we are covered with 13 players but we will see how Jasa goes," Baber said.

He added that he may not keep the same line-up at the Las Vegas 7s and that he will make his decision in the next few days.

"We will see how Jasa progresses but will make decisions based on the wider pitch, how he plays on the field - he is always good for that and obviously the positions we need to fill."

Fiji is currently third in the overall standings behind South Africa and New Zealand after finishing off with a bronze medal last week at the Las Vegas 7s.

Baber said they would not do anything differently but hold true to their philosophy of playing to win.

"That's the philosophy we took into every tournament. Sometimes we get it right and the other teams have the same testament as well like the USA they won last week but previously they were sitting in sixth or seventh place.

"The tough part is that we have got to do it all over again this weekend but I think we are in good physical form. The boys have recovered quickly....we trained well,

"We will healthy bodies on the field with some pace to boost."

The tournament will be played at the BC Place Stadium.
