VODAFONE Fiji is the official telecommunication sponsor for the 42nd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.

This was announced yesterday during a press conference at the Vodafone store at the My FNPF Center in Suva.

Vodafone will provide handsets, talk time, Wi-Fi devices and internet for streaming purposes.

Ronald Prasad, the Vodafone chief operating officer, said they were excited to be part of the historic tournament.

"I must congratulate the organising committee of the fantastic job they have done in making the Marist 7s one of the country's most anticipated rugby spectacles. We are proud and equally excited to be part of this event, which is much more than just 7s rugby," Prasad said.

"The 42nd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s has come a long way in supporting grassroots rugby development in Fiji. A platform of this nature continues to churn many big names that have gone and played for Fiji and secured lucrative contracts abroad.

"To successfully deliver a spectacle of this magnitude with 64 men's and 12 women's team requires among many other things, reliable communications and ICT services. We are proud to be the preferred telecommunication and ICT solutions partner for the biggest and oldest 7s tournament in Fiji. As part of our sponsorship, we are providing phones, airtime and internet for streaming."

Marist rugby president Lawrence Tikaram said this partnership would be a key factor for their logistics team.

"The key link to any successful team on the field is communication, with the communication devices and handsets that you (Vodafone) will provide us, it will ensure that we provide a world-class environment for the tournament and at the same time use those mobile phones and Wi-Fi's and everything provided so that the communication aspect of our tournament moves up another notch," Tikaram said.

"Thank you for the valuable investment. We want to say that we cherish this partnership. When two big brands come together you will have an expulsion of forces."

The Marist 7s will be held at the ANZ Stadium from March 23 to 24.
