FIJI amateur boxers will compete in a Tri-Nations competition this weekend in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea as a buildup to the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Fijian fighters will compete against PNG and Australian boxers in the competition.

Fiji amateur boxing coach Napoleon Taumoepeau said the competition would set the platform for the boxers to the Commonwealth Games.

"I am happy that we got enough time to prepare for the competition compared with the Olympic Games where we had almost of two weeks of preparation because of the short notice," Taumoepeau said.

"We had long period of time to prepare which was very important in terms of picking the fighters and see how good the boxers could perform.

"I believe we have three best boxers in Fiji with the likes of Nathan Singh who have fought overseas where his supporters were not around and it made a big difference."

The boxers who have been selected to represent Fiji at the games are Olympian Winston Hill and Jone Koroilagilagi Davule while Nathan Singh and Christopher Zoing are the reserves.

"I am happy with the attendance at training," he said.

The boxers departed for PNG yesterday.
