Friday, March 09, 2018

THREE Amendment Bills were passed by Parliament yesterday.

The Bills are the Employment Relations (Amendment) Bill 2018; Medicinal Products (Amendment) Bill 2018; and Public Enterprise (Amendment) Bill 2018.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said there was a particular provision in the Employment Relations Bill that was discriminatory against women. With the removal of the said provision, women could now work in underground mines.

The Medicinal Products (Amendment) Bill will allow the Fiji Medicinal Products Board to proceed with its board meeting in such circumstances where both the chairperson and the deputy chairperson are absent.
