AFTER a three-year break, the Fiji Dive Fiesta is making a comeback and will feature in Tourism Fiji's Activities Calendar for 2018.

In a press statement issued this week, Tourism Fiji said the six-day Fiesta would be held on March 10 and is supported by Tourism Fiji, Fiji Hotels and Tourism Association (FHTA) and the Fiji Dive Committee.

Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Matthew Stoeckel said the event was important because of Fiji's reputation as a highly sought-after dive destination.

"Dive is a critical market and we have incredible dive experiences here in Fiji," he said.

"Not only is Fiji well known as the soft coral capital of the world, but our shark dives are also rated in the top 10 diver experiences in the world as well.

"The dive fiesta ensures that dive agents and media remain well informed of Fiji's diver experiences so we can continue to attract more dive tourists from across the world."

The event will see dive agents and media from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Europe, Asia and North America experience some of Fiji's best diving sites.

Tourism Fiji said this would include experiences from the Suncoast in Rakiraki and Pacific Harbour to name a few.

Tourism Fiji said the dive market had niche segments and it was focused on promoting the incredible dive experiences in Fiji to all its international markets which include Asia where China alone has more divers being certified than any other country in the world.

The Fiji Dive Fiesta 2018 will encompass a week-long, action-packed dive itinerary, rounding off with a full day expo and trade engagement for the group with the local dive operators.

The FHTA will work with a selected property partner, to design and deliver a world-class workshop that will showcase industry leaders in dive safety and policy development for the market.

The Fiji Dive Fiesta 2018 will set the pace for Fiji's annual dive calendar before Tourism Fiji partners with local dive operators to attend the Asian Dive Expo (ADEX) in Singapore in April, followed by the Australian Dive Expo (AIDE) in Sydney in August, the Diving and Equipment Marketing Association (DEMA) in November held in Las Vegas, ending with the Diving Resort Travel (DRT) show in Hong Kong in December.
