BEACHCOMBER came across this tail.

A father asked his daughter to go and get some cotton wool (vauvau in the iTaukei language) from their neighbour who was a doctor.

Eager to please her father, the girl set off in haste. She returned a few minutes later with the neighbour in tow.

The concerned doctor came clutching a branch of the iTaukei spinach commonly known as bele.

Puzzled, the father asked the good doctor who the bele was for.

"It's for you," said his neighbour. The dad burst out laughing saying he didn't need bele, he had asked for cotton wool.

"Oh, in our dialect, vauvau is the word we use for bele," the doctor chuckled in reply.
