THE gallant six-men Police team wrested the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s title from Cross of Victory Taveuni in a mouth-watering final at Nadi's Prince Charles Park yesterday.

Evergreen playmaker Livai Ikanikoda saved the lawmen from the jaws of defeat, scoring the winning try after the full-time siren as both teams were level 12-all.

The former national playmaker scored from a five-metre penalty showcasing his class by dodging past two defenders to dive over.

Police scored two early tries to Keponi Paul, who was later given the red card, in the first spell before the Garden Island boys replied with two wonderful tries to Vereniki Tikoisolomoni and Silio Waqalevu. Ikanikoda sealed the game with his spectacular try.

The lawmen dedicated the win to two special people.

Manasa Bari said the win would motivate Fiji Airways Fiji 7s flyer Eroni Sau and his teammates to win the Las Vegas title next weekend.

He also dedicated the win to Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho who is recovering in hospital.

"This win is special and I thank the players for the hard work and teamwork to win," said Bari.

"The win is dedicated to our commissioner who is recovering at hospital and to Eroni (Sau).

"We hope that this will inspire him and we a confident he will continue the momentum in Las Vegas."

Skipper Sitiveni Waqa also dedicated the win to all the hardworking police officers around the country and abroad.

Police last won the Nawaka 7s in 2016. Meanwhile, Tuva defeated Ratu Filise 12-7 to win the U19 title while Waimanu downed Mosi to win the golden oldies trophy.
