44 men charged with sedition plead not guilty

ALL 44 people charged in relation to para-military style training in Ra in 2015 have pleaded not guilty to charges of sedition and urging political violence.

The matter was called before the High Court in Lautoka where amended consolidated information was presented.

They are charged with sedition contrary to section 67 (1) (a) of the Crimes Act 2009.

Timoci Nagata, Pita Vakatawa, Saimoni Nacolawa, Mosese Tawake, Esa Namure, Jone Fatiaki, Vive Naiyo, Samuela Nabenia, Salimoni Serua, Ilaitia Korolala, Semi Uquequ, Meli Nasalasala, Viliame Baravilala, Jese Vatusumu, Meli Waqabaca, Penasio Luqa, Joseva Caucau, Isereli Serewai, Rokoua Duatini and Filimoni Naloga have been charged with sedition and urging political violence.

Timoci Nacolatabisa, Apenisa Tucaketale, Qalita Vakacegu, Inoke Navunilagi, Viliame Nasau, Tomaci Madigibuli, Mitieli Raituku, Vosavosa Tunakoro, Maciu Uto, Vetaia Dale, Fonomanu Meresio, Temesi Waqa, Sevanaia Qaranivalu, Metereti Vunisa, Apimeleki Wailomo, Josua Navaluvou, Marika Qalo, Manueli Nadakula, Tevita Damudamu, Senaila Mariqama, Jolame Turagabeci, Tomasi Kacanavatu, Livai Takemaicakaudrove and Peceli Nayadra are each charged with urging political violence.

They will reappear in court on March 12, where Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge is expected to fix a trial date.
