THE Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has awarded three contracts for the restoration of unsealed roads in the Western, Central and Northern divisions.

FRA chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said those projects incorporated 30 kilometres of unsealed road in the West, 25km of unsealed road in the Central Division and 35km of unsealed road in the Northern Division.

"Works include grading of the road carriageway, the addition of aggregate to the road pavement, dig-out repairs, maintenance of shoulders, and supply and installation of drainage culverts," Mr Moore said.

He said those works were necessary to maintain the safe running surface on the unsealed road network.

"The aim of the Fijian Government is to maintain all roads to the highest possible standard, along with ensuring continuous improvement of the road network and responding to provide 24/7 access for the public and businesses that rely upon this road network," Mr Moore said.

He said works on those roads would begin once the weather cleared, adding it would be completed in stages to minimise disruption to road users.

Works are expected to be completed in the 2017/18 financial year, subject to the weather.
