RFMF deploys team to assess damage

THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces will be deploying a group of engineers to help assess the damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Gita in the southern Lau Group.

The group of engineers, who were expected to leave today, would be part of the overall assessment team Government was sending with relief items to southern Lau.

RFMF's Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said they were paying close attention to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the office of the Commissioner Eastern as to what sort of assistance was needed.

"We are listening to the National Disaster Management Office and Commissioner Eastern, who are in charge as to whatever form of assistance they would want from us," Rear Admiral Naupoto said.

He said for now, they would be sending a team of engineers to help assess the damage caused by TC Gita.

"We have some engineers who have been tasked to do assessment of the damage so that the information is brought back to Suva," he said.
