MAHATMA Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School student Meshach Pillay led by example in the inter-house yesterday winning three gold medals in the senior boys 3000 metres, 1500m and 800m races.

He is 18 and he has set his target for the Suva secondary schools athletics zone one competition.

"This is my second attempt to win the gold medal in the 3000m and 1500m and to qualify for the Coca-Cola Games," he said.

"I came fifth place in the 3000m last year."

Meanwhile, Atish Kumar, who competed alongside Pillay said the school relied on the senior boys' team.

"We don't have a lot of sprinters, but we're grateful to our teachers for having faith in us and training us to become good athletes.

"Come zone competition, we will prove ourselves that we're not just any ordinary school. We are here to win."

Both athletes took part in the 3000m with Pillay clocking a time of 12.56 minutes and Kumar with 12.57 minutes.
