Alisi Vucago

Update: 4:55PM HUNDREDS gathered at the Sacred Heart Cathedral yesterday to mark Ash Wednesday. It also marked the beginning of the Christian season of Lent.

The church collected money to help those who are badly affected by Cyclone Gita in Tonga, Ono-I Lau, Vatoa and Kadavu.

Lent is a six-week period leading up to Easter which is characterised by prayer, fasting and abstinence. It is a season of 40 days, not Sundays, which ends on Holy Saturday.

It is a time for repentance as well as taking on new life-giving practices.
