TC Gita: Three houses damaged on Doi

Update: 12:54PM THREE houses in the village of Doi on the island of Ono-i-Lau are reported to have suffered the full brunt of Tropical Cyclone Gita yesterday.

Doi villager Vakacegu Rogovinaka said the three families were still billeted at the village community hall, while 20 other people were still in evacuation centres - Doi Primary School and the village church.

Mr Rogovinaka said apart from the three houses that were destroyed, one house was partly damaged with only the roof blown off.

He said one of the teachers posted to the school also had to seek shelter yesterday after her government quarters was partly damaged.  

TC Gita, a category 4 storm, hit Ono-i-Lau at mid-day yesterday, with winds intensifying around 3pm.

This newspaper has established that communication to the village of Nukuni and Lovoni on the Island is still down at the moment.
