Boat eases transportation woes

WHAT used to be a 24-hour trip from Taveuni to Viti Levu has now been shortened only 13 hours thanks to the Miller Shipping Services boat, Princess Moana.

The company's director, Panapasa Vonokula, said the newly-launched Princess Moana was a testament of their efforts to give the people of Cakaudrove a new luxurious sailing experience.

"It also opens up to them the Nabouwalu route especially for islanders of Taveuni, Rabi and Kioa, who can now travel on the boat and get to Viti Levu in one day," said Mr Vonokula.

"Opening up this route for our passengers on the three islands has made us enter into an understanding with Patterson Brothers Shipping Company, who will also ferry our passengers across to Natovi.

"We feel that time and money is of the essence to our passengers along this route who normally have to travel for 24 hours to get to Suva. The services also host a carrier for farmers and passengers that wish to carry cargo to Viti Levu but they have to pay for these cargoes."

Mr Vonokula said boat fares were reasonable with trips from Kioa, Rabi, Taveuni to Natuvu costing $10.
