Prefects reminded of roles

STUDENT leaders have a huge responsibility to protect those who may not be able to stand for themselves.

This was one of the messages by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, to Sigatoka Methodist Primary School prefects last week.

Ms Vuniwaqa said that choosing leaders among students was a great way of enhancing the leadership skills of students.

"It develops their individual responsibility, promoting independence and rewarding success to enable every student to build on their confidence and to create responsible citizens, which is very crucial to all of us as a nation," Mrs Vuniwaqa said.

She said student leadership meant that students had an active role in decision making across the school.
