Police target drug cycle

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says police will conduct investigations in areas known for the cultivation of green drugs.

Brig-Gen Qiliho said they would conduct a series of operations this year to go in line with their crackdown on the cultivation cycle on green drugs.

"The area of drugs operations we have started on is linked to other criminal activities where we have conducted raids. We have recovered a good number of stolen properties even for petty crimes," he said.

Meanwhile, Brig-Gen Qiliho had earlier directed his officers to get quotations from helicopter companies to allow them to fly into rugged areas where drug farms are located.

This was after a group of police officers were assaulted and threatened during a drug raid at Levuka, Yale on Kadavu.

"We are continuously enhancing our capabilities so that we can act decisively on issues as we meet them," Brig-Gen Qiliho had said.

"I told them to go around to helicopter companies and get quotations to fly into that area of Kadavu, which is quite rugged, to do a quick aerial reconnaissance and redeploy those 20 (officers) to target those farms that could be located around that area."
