Woman on rape charge

A 38-YEAR-OLD woman appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court on Monday charged for raping a 25-year-old woman in Namaka last week.

Amele Wabale was charged with one count of rape.

She appeared before magistrate Peni Dalituicama who transferred the case to the High Court in Lautoka.

According to Nadi police prosecutor Inspector Parmesh Chand, Ms Wabale was alleged to have raped the woman after a drinking party with the victim last Thursday.

He said the accused was alleged to have accompanied the victim to a popular night club in Nadi.

After dinner with the victim, the pair was alleged to have slept at a hostel in Namaka where the alleged rape occurred.

The case has been adjourned for mention on February 21.
