Independent board director

FIJI'S only locally owned insurer yesterday announced the appointment of Inia Naiyaga as its second independent director.

In a statement yesterday chairperson of Sun Insurance board of directors, Padam Raj Lala said Mr Naiyaga would bring a wealth of experience from the regulated financial services sector to the Sun board.

He said Mr Naiyaga would join Archie Seeto as the second independent director in the five-member board.

According to the statement Mr Naiyaga is a Chartered Accountant and was a central banker for 40 years and he retired as the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji in May 2014.

Prior to his retirement he also served as the deputy governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga for five years and was a member of the executive management team of the Reserve Bank of Fiji for 25 years.

Mr Naiyaga is a director of the Fiji Development Bank, director of the National Fire Authority, director of Fijian Holdings Ltd Stockbrokers Ltd, member of the University of the South Pacific Finance and Investment Committee, member of the Christian Mission Fellowship International executive board, member of the World Harvest Institute board and chairperson of his village company Namuka Nakelo Holdings Ltd.
